Pickup trucks are slowly gaining popularity in the Indian market but they are still not as popular as some other countries. Even though Indians like practical things, the pickup truck market has been a stale and tough one for manufacturers to crack. In India, we do love big and bold SUVs and we do love driving at a commanding position, but we clearly do not quite like the concept of pickup trucks, which is evident from the very late entry of this segment in our automotive space as something that we can call as lifestyle vehicle.

In the commercial vehicle segment, we have seen pickup trucks being used to a certain extent, the most popular being the Tata Yodha and the Mahindra Pikup. But this segment lacks popularity in the private vehicle sector, and it is only now that it is gaining some popularity. The question is why do we love SUVs and even though we like bigger and bolder cars, at least as our weekend vehicle if not as our daily drivers, why is it that we have not welcomed this segment into our car culture with open arms? This is a question that does require some pondering upon and let us solve this puzzle together.

Why The Pickup Truck Segment Has Not Taken Off? Firstly, the issue is the congested roads and parking space. Pickup trucks are huge and quite long, which makes them not so easy to maneuver in our city traffic and even parking these is a task in our country. As a result, people do not prefer to use these as everyday vehicles, like people use them in the U.
