In a surprising turn of events, actor Lamorne Morris won the Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series award at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday (IST) for his role in Fargo . The actor, who portrayed North Dakota Deputy Witt Farr in the series, was seemingly as shocked as everyone else when he took to the stage to accept his award. Morris's win thwarted Robert Downey Jr.

's historic Emmy bid Morris's win was particularly unexpected as he triumphed over category favorites Robert Downey Jr. ( The Sympathizer ) and Jonathan Bailey ( Fellow Travelers ). Had Downey Jr.

won, he would have made history by becoming the first actor to clinch an Oscar, Daytime Emmy, and a Primetime Emmy in the same year. However, the night was full of surprises with Morris securing his first win in his first career Emmy nomination. Morris's humorous acceptance speech and shoutout to Downey Jr.

During his acceptance speech, Morris humorously acknowledged his fellow nominees, particularly Downey Jr. "Robert Downey Jr., I've got a poster of you in my house! Please sign it, seriously," he said.
