Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International and former chief executive of Prudential Plc, was confirmed among the fatalities in the sinking of a luxury yacht on August 19 off the coast of Italy. He was 70 years old. His wife, Judy, was also among those who died.

The couple had been guests on the superyacht Bayesian to celebrate the acquittal of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, in whose trial Jonathan Bloomer had served as a defense witness. A tornado struck the yacht near Porticello, Sicily, leading to the deaths of six people. The Bloomer children released a statement following the incident, stating, "Our parents were incredible people and an inspiration to many, but first and foremost they were focused on and loved their family and spending time with their new grandchildren.

Together for five decades, our only comfort is that they are still together now. This is an unimaginable grief to shoulder. Our only ask is that our family’s privacy is respected at this time.

" Jonathan Bloomer had chaired Morgan Stanley’s European business since 2018. Last year, he was appointed to lead the board of British insurer Hiscox Ltd . Ted Pick, CEO of Morgan Stanley, noted Bloomer’s significant impact on the firm, stating, "His leadership and experience helped the firm manage a period of complex change for our international businesses.

" Aki Hussain, CEO of Hiscox, echoed those sentiments, expressing, "It was a privilege to have worked with Bloomer." Bloomer's career spanne.
