Kristofferson's family confirmed to People that Kristofferson 'passed away peacefully' Saturday at his Maui, Hawaii home, which came amid a series of health issues in his later years .
Coolidge, 79, and Kristofferson were wed from 1973 and 1980. They initially crossed paths on a Memphis-bound flight in 1971 at a Los Angeles area airport, with Coolidge telling People in 2016 that she likes 'to say that it was "love at first flight" as they 'literally talked all the way to Memphis.' Coolidge said that she and Kristofferson - who exchanged vows August 17, 1973 - had committed to getting married and picked out a name for a baby in their first few hours of knowing one another.
