A holiday romance ended with a 'jealous misogynist' strangling and suffocating his new wife in terrifying attacks. Marlon Hamilton, 29, left his victim fearing she would die as he squeezed her neck with his hands. Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard he then used a scarf to restrict her breathing and placed a pillow over her face and pressed down.
At one point she begged for the chance to say goodbye to her children before fleeing to her ex's home to call 999. Hamilton nearly escaped justice after he immediately booked a flight back to Jamaica but was arrested in London. Now the defendant, of Cherry Lane, Cheadle , has been jailed for 35 months.
The court heard the defendant met his victim in October 2022 while she was on a sunshine getaway to Jamaica and he was working in a hotel. The relationship soon became intimate and she visited Jamaica on multiple occasions in 2023 before the pair wed in November, within weeks of her divorce. But it soon became plain that Hamilton was jealous and obsessive.
His wife was a successful businesswoman with her former husband and the demands of her children and her business interests were all-consuming. She tried to assure him she was a loyal wife but he accused her of infidelity. He was convinced she was being unfaithful to him.
Prosecutor Andrew Ford KC said the couple lived in a cottage on the grounds where her former husband and children lived. On March 13 and 14 this year Hamilton 'embarked on a display of paranoid and violent behaviour'. M.
