Since launching her eponymous brand in 2011, Olivia von Halle has become known for her elegant, sophisticated style. The former brand consultant has revolutionised nightwear, proving that changing into pyjamas at the end of the day can feel just as luxurious as getting ready to head back out again. Despite being based in London , the designer spends much of her time travelling the world for work, taking inspiration from the places she visits.

One such place, naturally, is New York . Below, Olivia lets us in on the ultimate packing guide for a trip to New York City. I try to visit NYC once a year, always around November or December .

There is something so special about the Christmas atmosphere in the city, which I just love. I always get back home filled with good energy and lots of nice creative ideas. In my opinion what’s so unique about New York’s style is that it’s a reflection of the city and its energy – so bold and full of contrasts, always evolving and never sleeping.

I feel New Yorkers are constantly on the go, even more than us Londoners. So the key to dressing like a New Yorker is definitely making sure you pack day-to-night transitional pieces. Bemelmans Bar for the best cocktails and live music in the city! That place is so rich in history and it directly transports you into a different era.

I also really love going to Casa Cruz for dinner; the atmosphere is always great, and it's the best food in town. Bergdorf Goodman is the quintessential New York City .
