Sunday, September 15, 2024 Exciting news for West Cork as a popular holiday destination receives a share of a €4 million grant designed to invigorate tourism on Ireland’s scenic islands. One of the key beneficiaries is Cape Clear’s Fastnet Experience and Heritage Centre, which has been awarded over €1 million in capital investment funding to enhance and expand its facilities. The upgrade will transform the well-loved visitor attraction, introducing augmented reality and 3D experiences that focus on the iconic Fastnet Lighthouse.
Plans also include a significant upgrade to the museum and the addition of new amenities, further enhancing the site’s appeal for both tourists and locals. This strategic development comes as part of a collaborative effort between Fáilte Ireland and Údarás na Gaeltachta, with the former contributing €831,204 in funding and the latter €207,801. This initiative is set to not only improve visitor experiences but also extend the length of stays on the island, benefiting local businesses and the wider community.
In addition to Cape Clear, the remainder of the €4 million investment will go towards the Árainn – Place of Stone Visitor Centre on Inis Mór in Co. Galway. This new cultural hub will be situated in the former Aran Islands Heritage Centre in Cill Rónáin and is expected to play a vital role in fostering local culture through year-round programming and events.
