Web Series Review: Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein: Season 2

After the events of the first part, Vikrant (Tahir Raj Bhasin) gets the shock of his life as the assassin, Jalan (Arunoday Singh), doesn't kill the former's wife Purva Awasthi (Anchal Singh). Instead, he kidnaps her and asks for Rs. 100 crores. On the other hand, Shikha (Shweta Tripathi Sharma) gets married to Akhil Bhatnagar (Nikhil Pandey). Jalan's cousin brother Dharmesh (Surya Sharma) reaches Shikha's marriage venue to finish her. But things don’t go as planned. Shikha makes an SOS call to Vikrant. He reaches Shikha's place and finds out about Dharmesh. Now Vikrant has to feign ignorance of not just Purva’s kidnap but also Dharmesh’s disappearance. Akheraj Awasthi (Saurabh Shukla), meanwhile, is shattered as his daughter Purva is abducted while Dharmesh is missing. At this point, he gets help from Guru (Gurmeet Choudhary), a trained agent based in London. He and Purva spent considerable time together before she came back to her hometown, Onkara. Guru loves Purva but she made it clear that she doesn't have feelings for him. Guru arrives in Onkara and is determined to bring back Purva at any cost. He immediately gets suspicious of Vikrant and has strong reasons to believe that he's behind her abduction. What happens next forms the rest of the series.Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein: Season 2 Story Review:Sidharth Sengupta and Umesh Padalkar's story is engaging. Sidharth Sengupta's screenplay is riveting as the narrative keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Varun Badola's dialogues are sharp and add to the drama.Sidharth Sengupta's direction does justice to the script. This time, the tension levels are very high, compared to last time. In the first season, there were light and romantic moments. But this time, the characters are plunged into madness from the very first scene. Vikrant’s track is the best of the lot as one is constantly worried that his game will be up anytime. How he covers his tracks and saves himself makes for a great watch. A few scenes that work are Guru interrogating Vikrant’s sister Pallavi (Hetal Gala), Purva forming a bond with Neetu (Nikita Grover), Purva’s escape from the hospital etc. A scene that is unexpected is Vikrant making Akheraj realize how he has never been loving to Purva and Dharmesh.On the flipside, just like in the first season, there are far too many cinematic liberties. In fact, a few developments defy logic and in some places, it gets too much. The entire Beta Blocker scene sounds interesting on paper but it is quite far-fetched. Another issue is the climax. Yet again, the season ends on a cliffhanger but this time, it leaves you with too many unanswered questions and it might not be appreciated by a section of the moviegoers.Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein: Season 2 Performances:Tahir Raj Bhasin is apt for the part and delivers a convincing performance, even though the script at times is difficult to digest. Anchal Singh arguably has less screen time but her scenes are filmed in challenging locations and she does well. Shweta Tripathi Sharma, as always, is natural and puts her best foot forward. Gurmeet Choudhary is presented like a mass hero and delivers an able performance. Saurabh Shukla and Brijendra Kala (Suryakant Chauhan) are dependable. Arunoday Singh has a much bigger screen time this season and is fair. Anantvijay Joshi (Golden) raises laughs but some of his scenes are plain silly. Surya Sharma, Shashi Verma (Shikha’s father) and Hetal Gala are fine in their respective cameo appearances. Nikita Grover and Varun Badola (Sherpa) leave a mark. Emily R Acland (Leika) and Benedict Garrett (Rufat) are fair. Rajeshwari Sachdev has a striking special appearance.Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein: Season 2 music and other technical aspects:Shivam-Anuj's music is peppy. All the songs like the remixed title track, 'Deewana', 'Mehndi Rang Laayi Hai', 'Mohabbat', 'Saajan Niklu Bekaar', 'Jaan-E-Jaan' and 'Jee Ghabraya' are well woven into the narrative. Shivam-Anuj's background score adds to the tension and thrill.Murali Krishna's cinematography is spectacular. The snow ranges, especially, are very well shot. Parichit Paralkar's production design and Subodh Srivastav's costumes are appealing. Amar Shetty's action is realistic and a bit disturbing. Rajesh G Pandey's editing is slick. This time, the season is only six episodes long.Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein: Season 2 Conclusion:On the whole, YEH KAALI KAALI ANKHEIN: SEASON 2 is a nail-biting thriller but gets affected to some extent due to too many cinematic liberties.Rating: 3 stars
