The U.S. Women’s National Team will play for the gold medal in soccer at the Paris Olympics.

Sophia Smith’s scored the only goal of the game in extra time to give the USWNT a tough 1-0 win over Germany in a semifinal game on Tuesday. The U.S.

will face the the winner between Brazil and Spain on Saturday in Paris. Smith scored in the 95th minute after a beautiful through ball from teammate Mallory Swanson. The Portland Thorns’ star forward beat German defender Felicitas Rauchto and goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger to the ball and her one-time shot from just inside the 18-yard box sailed past Berger.

Smith fell to the turf in celebration. The goal was Smith’s third in the competition, but this one was by far her biggest of her international career. The U.

S. women are back in the gold medal game for the first time since 2012, when they won the gold medal by defeating Japan in London for their third consecutive gold medal. Since then the U.
