The Southwestern Warriors opened the post season in explosive fashion as they completely dominated the visiting East Jessamine Jaguars from the get-go in a 42-0 shutout victory in the opening round of the KHSAA Class 5A playoffs Friday at the Reservation. The Warriors got a three-yard touchdown run from senior Braxton Walters just 34 seconds into the contest and never looked back. Southwestern had a six-yard touchdown run by quarterback Zach Benedict, a 26-yard Tayden Richardson to Antajuan Dumphord touchdown pass, an 18-yard Benedict touchdown run and a 23-yard Benedict to Kendal Wesley touchdown pass to take a commanding 35-0 lead at the half.

Benedict connected with tight end Kaleb Lundsford for a 26-yard touchdown in the third quarter to round out the scoring. The Warriors defense came through with its best game of the season, holding the Jaguars to only 37 total yards and three first downs in the contest. Southwestern, now 6-5, advances to the second round of the Class 5A playoffs next Friday to take on North Laurel for the second time this season.
