Pubs across Walsall have abruptly shut their doors this evening amid 'safety concerns'. Bookings at popular spots are said to have been cancelled at the last minute after pub bosses decided to close 'with immediate effect' on Wednesday (August 7) evening. It is understood that concerns were raised with pubs, forcing many to shut early in a bid to keep staff and customers safe.

A number of posts have been shared on social media, describing how pubs across Walsall - including in Pelsall and Bloxwich - are among those which made the unusual decision. The move is said to have been sparked by news of the funeral of Connor Brookes - who was shot dead in Well Lane, Blakenhall, on July 8. In a post on Facebook, The Fingerpost Pub Pelsall said: "We are sad to say we are going to have to close this evening with immediate effect.
