Vadodara: The general board meeting of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Thursday evening saw the opposition cornering the ruling BJP over a series of issues that cropped up over the last couple of months. The opposition raised issues ranging from waterlogging in the city to insufficient arrangements for Dashama idol immersions . The general board had been adjourned for the last few weeks for a variety of reasons, including the deaths of former councillors and eminent persons.

The opposition, however, believes the meetings were being avoided as the ruling BJP didn’t want to face the opposition and discuss crucial matters. Congress councillor and former leader of the party in the VMC, Ami Ravat, raised the issue of waterlogging after huge amounts were spent on stormwater drains. She said Rs 1,200 crore was spent on storm drains in about 12 years, but waterlogging still occurs.
