The Victoria Independent School District (VISD) Board of Trustees named Sheila Collazo as the sole finalist for superintendent of schools. The Board selected Collazo after a lengthy search process and is drafting her contract to be presented following the 21-day waiting period required by state-law. The Board’s search firm brought 53 candidates to be reviewed.
The Board brought the list to eight potential candidates who were then interviewed. Three candidates were then selected for a final round of interviews before Collazo was selected as the sole finalist. VISD superintendent of schools sole finalist Sheila Collazo.
(Contributed by VISD) The online superintendent surveys, open to community members, district staff and students, largely created the criteria the Board used when making their choice for the superintendent sole finalist. The survey produced the leading requirement for the position; the new superintendent must have the students’ best interests at heart. The Board searched for a candidate with a track record of accountability, both in the state’s grading system, and in their ability to enforce classroom management and follow-through with policy and procedure.
Collazo has a glowing track record in those areas and in her ability to hold everyone she oversees accountable, Mike Mercer, VISD Board of Trustees president, said.
