Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Friday found half a kg of gold that included at least 21 pairs of bangles , several gold chains and necklaces, rings apart from Rs 1.4 crore cash during searches at multiple locations of chief accounts officer of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) Bijay Kumar Mangaraj. Vigilance sleuths said besides cash and gold, disproportionate assets also included luxury cars, flats in posh localities and several plots.

Two double-storey building at Palasuni in Bhubaneswar and one two-storey building at Ernakulum, Kerala are in the name of Mangaraj. “He is in possession of four high-value plots in Bhubaneswar. We are verifying bank accounts and other deposits,” vigilance officials said.

Mangaraj, according to vigilance, joined govt service in 1991 as engineer in Panchayati Raj department. In 1997, he joined Odisha Finance Service and became financial advisor at the Balimela dam project in Chitrakonda and then went on to become additional commissioner of commercial taxes in 1999. He became deputy commissioner of CT-GST in 2002 and directorate of statistics in 2003.

He also held other posts before becoming chief accounts officer of OSRTC..
