Ethan Reed, a junior at Victoria West High School, Ethan Reed, has been selected to participate in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Texas All-State Band. Reed’s monumental accomplishment of being selected for a seat in the prestigious band was announced by the Victoria Independent School District (VISD) recently. “Ethan’s accomplishment adds to Victoria ISD’s proud tradition of musical excellence, marking him the eighth VISD All-State musician since 2010, with five from Victoria East High School and three from Victoria West High School,” a VISD press release read.
The achievement highlights Reed as a member of the top two percent of high school musicians in Texas. This honor is earned by less than 2,000 students from the 70,000 total students who entered the competition. Reed was required to advance through three levels of auditions on the road to earning his spot in the Texas All-State Band: District Tryouts in November, Region Tryouts in December, and Area Tryouts in January.
Reed will travel to San Antonio with the rest of the Texas All-State Band members to rehearse and perform with the state’s top level high school musicians during the TMEA Music Conference. The conference is the largest gathering of its kind in the United States of America. “VISD is committed to fostering creativity and excellence in the fine arts, celebrating achievements like Ethan’s, which showcase the life-changing power of music education,” the press release read.
