Brenda Blethyn has sparked excitement about a fresh endeavour following the completion of her iconic role in Vera, which led to her absence from a North East event she was due to attend. The award-winning actress has been portraying the no-nonsense DCI Stanhope on ITV's hit drama for over a decade. Her portrayal won hearts globally, making her one of TV's most esteemed detectives.

Fans were disheartened to hear that Vera would be ending after its upcoming 14th series next year. Filming for Vera's final instalment kicked off at the end of May, taking Brenda and the team across various locations including Blyth, Gateshead, Hartlepool, South Shields, and Ashington, with some of the concluding scenes shot in the quaint village of Glanton in Northumberland. While viewers are eagerly awaiting the premiere date for Vera's last series, it seems Brenda is already diving into another project, reports Chronicle Live.

Brenda regretfully informed her fans on X that she couldn't make it to the Washington Riding Centre for the Disabled open day, a charity close to her heart in the Northeast. Brenda expressed her disappointment on X about missing out on the beloved local fete due to her professional engagements, saying: "What lovely weather today for the fete @The Washington Riding Centre for the Disabled. so disappointed my work has prevented me from attending.
