Prayagraj: The Allahabad HC has recently observed that the objective of UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act , 2021 is to sustain the spirit of secularism in India. Rejecting the bail application of a person booked under the anti-conversion law apart from various other charges, Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal said the purpose of the Act is to guarantee religious freedom to all persons, thereby reflecting India's social harmony and spirit, reports Rajesh Kumar Pandey. Justice Agarwal said while the Constitution guarantees each person right to profess, practise, and propagate their religion, this individual right does not translate into a collective right to proselytize, as religious freedom equally belongs to both the person converting and one being converted.
