Prayagraj : After a brief lull, the water level of twin rivers Ganga and Yamuna has once again shown an increasing trend in the city on Tuesday morning. However, the water level of Ganga showed a rising trend at Phaphamau in the evening hours while the water level of Ganga and Yamuna at Chhatnaag and Naini showed a stable and declining trend respectively. Officials of flood control department claimed that water level of twin rivers showed accelerating pace since early morning hours.
The residents of more than a dozen localities, including Ganga Nagar, Newada, Draupadi ghat, Chota Baghara and adjoining areas are apprehensive and even planning to move to safer places if the similar trend continues. Officials of the flood control department, however, claimed that water level of both the rivers started rising after additional water was released into river Ganga and Yamuna from the dams. By 8 am, the water level of Ganga at Phaphamau, Chhatnag and Yamuna at Naini was 80.

However, by 12 noon, water level of Ganga at Phaphamau and Chhatnag sites was slowly rising while water level of Yamuna at Naini was stable. Water level of Ganga (at 12 noon) at Phaphamau was recorded as 82.84 metres, at Chhatnag it was 80.
