Tuesday, August 27, 2024 LATAM Colombia has canceled 36 flights scheduled for tomorrow due to a temporary fuel shortage caused by an electrical failure at a Colombian refinery. This disruption has led to the cancellation of 17% of the airline’s daily operations. The cancellations have primarily affected flights at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, with 18 departures and 18 arrivals canceled, representing 3% and 4% of the airport’s operations, respectively.
Despite the fuel shortage affecting LATAM, Avianca has not yet reported any cancellations, indicating that their operations at the airport remain unaffected for now. According to data from Cirium, an aviation analytics firm, LATAM Colombia has scheduled 6,400 roundtrip flights this month, offering just over 1.1 million seats.
The busiest route is the Bogotá-Medellín corridor, which sometimes sees up to 17 daily roundtrips. Most of LATAM Colombia’s routes are relatively short, with none of the top five exceeding 500 miles. The Bogotá-Medellín route, at 133 miles, tops the list with up to 17 daily roundtrips and more than 100,000 seats available.
Following closely is the Bogotá-Cali route, which is 174 miles long and flown up to 14 times daily, also offering over 100,000 seats. Despite the prevalence of shorter routes, LATAM Colombia operates three longer international routes: São Paulo, Miami, and Orlando. The longest is the daily flight to São Paulo, covering 2,689 miles.
