North Texas looks nothing like it did just a few months ago when it played in the National Invitation Tournament. The Mean Green lost their top six scorers from last season to graduation or the transfer portal. The turnover made the first couple of games of the second season of coach Ross Hodge’s tenure all the more important.

UNT finished off that adjustment period in fine fashion on Thursday night, when the Mean Green cruised to a 80-38 win over Wayland Baptist at the Super Pit. Atin Wright scored 16 points in his second game at UNT after transferring in from Drake on a night the Mean Green got nearly everyone involved and moved to 2-0. UNT opened the season with an 80-63 win over a solid Evansville team that played in the College Basketball Invitational last season.

The Mean Green have yet to be challenged. That figures to change in the next few days. UNT will face Minnesota out of the Big Ten on Wednesday before taking on McNeese State, which won 30 games last season.

There is plenty for the Mean Green to feel good about heading into that game after adjusting to a new look roster with 10 new players. Several of those players showed promise in UNT’s first two games. Latrell Jossell scored 12 points and the Mean Green had 12 players score against Wayland Baptist (0-4).
