Nagpur: The Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations (MFUCTO) has escalated their protest against the state’s higher education department, accusing officials of violating provisions of the Constitution of India. MFUCTO members have already stopped exam-related work in the university after their pleas to the state govt went unheard in the last three months. Under a 9-phase protest, MFUCTO has held marches and dharnas at all universities in the state.

Now, they will stage demonstrations wherever the minister of education appears in public events, MFUCTO officials said. According to them, state govt had issued a GR in 2019, based on earlier UGC regulations. However, govt made certain changes in the GR which were in contravention of the UGC regulations.

These pertained to pay revision and other service conditions of university teachers. The professors allege the higher education department is issuing instructions that contradict the Constitution of India and the Supreme Court rulings.
