Dennis Naku The United Nations Children’s Fund and its partner have donated an oxygen plant and oxygen delivery device to the General Hospital in Eleme, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State. The plant can produce 720,000 litres of oxygen daily. Speaking at the commissioning and the handing over of the plant, UNICEF Nigeria Country Representative, Christian Munduate, said the initiative follows a comprehensive, nationwide assessment of oxygen needs in health facilities across 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory.

Munduate further said the initiative is in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health, IHS Nigeria, the Canadian Government, and the Rivers State government. She stated, “The handover of this newly built oxygen generation plant marks a crucial advancement in our mission to supply medical-grade oxygen to healthcare facilities. “The plant will significantly boost the capacity of the Eleme General Hospital and surrounding healthcare facilities to provide life-saving medical oxygen.

It will ensure that medical oxygen is readily available and accessible, reducing dependency on external supplies and ensuring that emergencies are swiftly and effectively managed. “The impact of this facility cannot be overstated, it will save lives, improve health outcomes, and provide a stronger foundation for the comprehensive healthcare that every individual deserves.” Munduate further said the plant has two newborn units as she urged the state g.
