Tucked away in the mountains east of Port Moresby, within the plush Sogeri Plateau, lies the Koitaki Country Club – a hidden gem offering an idyllic retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. A mere one hours drive along the scenic Sogeri Road brings you to this serene paradise, where the air is cooler, the surroundings greener, and the sense of peace almost palpable. My family and I had the pleasure of spending the long weekend, including Repentance Day, at Koitaki Country Club, and it was an experience filled with joy and relaxation.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the friendly staff, whose warmth and hospitality set the tone for our stay. The club’s history is as rich as the natural beauty that surrounds it, having once been a successful rubber plantation, later transformed into a Polo Cross club, and even serving as a WWII field hospital. Today, under the stewardship of Robert (Bob) and Sharon Bradshaw, Koitaki has evolved into a haven for adventure seekers and those simply looking to unwind.

One of the first things we noticed was the breathtaking scenery. At an altitude of about 500 meters above sea level, Koitaki boasts a climate that is refreshingly cool compared to Port Moresby. The club’s expansive grounds are perfect for outdoor activities, and we wasted no time in exploring them.

The kids had a blast at the pool and playground, and we all enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the Eworogo River, where picnic spots and camping areas summon thos.
