While many holidaymakers flock to well-known Welsh tourist destinations like Tenby, Saundersfoot, or St David's, the small village of Llansteffan often goes unnoticed. Located just outside Carmarthen, this charming spot offers a vast beach, an impressive castle, and a fantastic pub and restaurant, all set against the backdrop of some of Wales' most beautiful countryside. Despite its absence from many guidebooks, Llansteffan can certainly hold its own against any of Wales' more famous seaside locations, offering a perfect balance of beauty and tranquillity.

This delightful estuary village on the River Tywi, just one inlet away from Dylan Thomas' retreat Laugharne, promises enjoyable days filled with exploration, historical adventures, gourmet dining, or simply savouring fish and chips on the beach. Like much of the Welsh coast, Llansteffan provides a wonderful mix of coastal walks for those who love the feel of sand between their toes, and woodland paths, with views of the sparkling water (on a sunny day!) and the smell of sea air all around, reports the Mirror . From the waterfront car park, you can set up camp on the beach, with facilities nearby.

However, be aware of the tide, as it moves quickly in this area, according to Wales Online. If the tide is out and you're looking for a more secluded spot, you can head over to Scott's Bay. Again, keep an eye on the tide - you can check the tide times here.

Florries chip shop and a charming tea shop are among the local attractions .
