John Lewis is turning the Waitrose store into homes (Image: JOHN LEWIS) The John Lewis Partnership has been given the go-ahead to transform its Waitrose site in Bromley into a new residential community of 353 energy-efficient rental homes, alongside a modernised store. Bromley Borough Council agreed with its planning officers' recommendation to grant consent for the application, which received 147 letters of support from local residents, outweighing those who opposed the proposal. Local residents will be given priority for the new 'build to rent' homes, which will be developed, owned and managed by JLP.

The investment is expected to boost the local economy by an estimated £70m in additional council tax and local spend over the first decade, once the homes are occupied. The plans also include new public green spaces, a cafe, and amenity spaces for local community groups and schools to utilise, as well as cycle and pedestrian links through the site connecting it to the high street and surrounding area. function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.
