The new plans will see the beach returning for the first time since 2008. (Image: Getty) A seaside town often overlooked in favour of nearby Brighton and Eastbourne is set to get its beach back in plans to revitalise the area. Newhaven in Sussex was once a traditional seaside spot but suffered a major blow when its sandy beach , West Beach, was closed back in 2008 over safety concerns.

The town suffered further disappointment when plans to build what developers claimed would be one of world's biggest water parks were scrapped back in 2013. Before becoming the local Lib Dem MP, James MacCleary vowed to revitalise the once-bustling resort if elected. The plans currently include reopening its rare sandy beach to the public, along with various other projects catering to visitors.
