1 2 Ranchi: Two miscreants were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department ( CID ) on Wednesday on charges of trafficking individuals to South East Asian countries to work in centres that trap victims in investment frauds and job frauds , sleuths said. The CID on Thursday said the arrested accused were identified as Waseem Khan of Giridih and Yamuna Kumar Rana of Koderma. The arrests were made from the respective native districts of the accused on Wednesday evening based on the statements made by victims trafficked to Cambodia.

The CID stated, “Seven persons, who were trafficked to Cambodia from Jharkhand, after being lured by agents on promise of jobs related to data entry, managed to escape after contacting the Indian Embassy. They reached home and registered a case (189/2024) on Monday.” The two arrested accused persons were part of a racket that lured victims with promises of fake jobs to Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia and forced them to work in scam call centres .

The trafficked victims were asked to deposit money for visa and tickets and travel to Cambodia through Vietnam and Thailand. After arrival, they were trained to create fake accounts on social media and messaging platforms and contact potential customers with attractive offers. The persons contacted in this way were sent links of fake investment applications and websites and convinced to deposit money in mentioned accounts.

The trafficked individuals were made to work under harsh condition and their pas.
