Pune: Kondhwa police detained two youngsters of a group after one of the members of the group opened fire in the air at Kausarbaug in Kondhwa around 11.40pm on Saturday during a fight between two groups of youngsters. No one, however, was injured in the firing incident.
Deputy commissioner of police (Zone V) Rajkumar Shinde told TOI, "Two groups of friends are involved in the incident. One group has three people, while the other has two. They all know each other well.
" "They all were having dinner at an eatery in Kausarbaug. The group of two friends reached the eatery with their woman friend and the other group of three friends objected to the presence of the woman," Shinde said. "This objection led to arguments among all five people.
Enraged by this, one of the two friends picked up a paver block and assaulted one of the people who were objecting," he said. "Reacting to this assault, one of the three friends called up a few people from the Sayyednagar area and soon, many youngsters started arriving at the scene," Shinde said. "Some of them indulged in stone pelting, and the people gathered at the spot were also armed with swords.
One of the group members then pulled out a country-made pistol from his trousers and opened fire in the air," he said. "Following this, all of the five men, the woman, and others who were rioting gathered at the spot fled as soon as the sound of the open fire rocked the area," he said.
