The bodies of two porpoises were discovered next to a net on a beach in Wales. Local resident Dennis Jones stumbled upon what he believed to be a mother and her calf on the sands of Old Colwyn. They were found next to a gill net on the beach.

Mr Jones speculated that the marine mammals had died due to the netting. A gill net is a single wall of netting anchored on the seabed designed to ensnare fish that swim into it. He shared a photograph of the porpoises on the Old Colwyn past and present Facebook page, accompanied by a message questioning "Why are these nets on our beach? If they can trap these beautiful creatures it will happen again".

However, others pointed out that since the animals were found waterside of the net and bore no obvious net marks, this was likely not the cause of their deaths. A representative from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue said that members would be attending to remove the bodies and investigate the deaths.

They requested that people refrain from moving or disturbing the bodies. The group has been involved in the rescue of marine wildlife since 1988. .
