Friday, August 9, 2024 Tropical Storm Debby, after making landfall in Florida as a hurricane earlier this week, has continued to cause disruptions across the southeastern United States, particularly impacting the operations of several major cruise ships. Among the vessels affected is Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Sunshine, whose return to its homeport in Charleston, South Carolina, has been delayed due to the storm’s path through The Carolinas. The Carnival Sunshine, which was returning from a five-night cruise to the Bahamas, was originally scheduled to dock in Charleston on Thursday morning.

However, due to adverse weather conditions brought on by Tropical Storm Debby, the vessel is now expected to arrive several hours later than planned. According to an update from Carnival Cruise Line, the Sunshine is anticipated to dock in Charleston in the early afternoon, rather than its originally scheduled morning arrival. In a statement addressing the situation, Carnival Cruise Line emphasized that the safety of its crew and passengers remains the company’s top priority.

“Our Fleet Operations Center in Miami continues to actively monitor Debby, which is currently impacting The Carolinas. The safety of our crew is our priority, and our ships will maintain a safe distance from the storm,” the company said. Despite the delayed arrival, Carnival has assured passengers that the Sunshine’s next voyage will proceed as planned, albeit with some modifications to the embarkation.
