Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has addressed the ongoing impasse over his new contract with Liverpool, hinting fans could be left waiting for public updates on the saga. Alexander-Arnold is one of three high profile Kop stars yet to sign a fresh extension at the club, with captain Virgil van Dijk and free-scoring Mo Salah also entering the final year of their current deals with no new agreements struck as yet. The right-back was appointed club vice captain by Jurgen Klopp ahead of the German’s final campaign as manager, and while he has picked up from where he left off on the pitch this season, contract speculation off it has loudened in recent times.

Alexander-Arnold was subbed off by new manager Arne Slot in the opening weeks of the season, with the player’s frustrations visible as he reacted when taking his seat on the bench. However, the player himself pointed to multiple extensions he had signed in the past and explained that his current situation would be dealt with in the same fashion; in private and not in public, leaving Liverpool fans playing a waiting game. He told The Times : ‘Look, I have been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public, and this one won’t be either.

‘The most important thing is always trophies if I am honest. ‘I want to win trophies, I am a player who is highly motivated by trophies and winning things and being elite. So that is probably the main.
