Trailblazing ballerina Michaela DePrince and her mother have coincidently died a day apart. Ms DePrince, 29, passed away unexpectedly on September 10, and her mother passed only 24 hours later during a routine procedure. The family made an official statement on Facebook, thanking people for their support and educating fans about the circumstances.
“Thank you everyone for your outpouring of support in response to Michaela’s passing,” the family wrote. “There has been a great deal of speculation online so the family would like to officially set the record straight about a few things. “The last few days have been even more difficult than most people realize because the family has also been dealing with the death of Michaela’s adoptive mother Elaine DePrince.
“Her mother Elaine died during a routine procedure in preparation for a surgery on September 11th. Michaela died before Elaine and Elaine did not know of Michaela’s passing at the time of her procedure.” The family added that the deaths were completely unrelated despite how “unbelievable it may seem”.
Ms DePrince’s mother had already lost three children years ago, and the family said she was “spared the pain of experiencing the loss of a fourth child”. Facebook users flooded the comments with words of support. One person said, “Sending you love, light and strength.
