1 2 Prayagraj : With the strength of kanwariyas increasing manifold and for the third ‘Somvar’ (Monday) of Shrawan month, police on Sunday reviewed security arrangements at ghats and kanwar route and deployed additional police forces to streamline traffic. District traffic police authorities on Sunday implemented a route diversion plan for heavy and commercial vehicles, which would be effective till Tuesday noon. Thousands of kanwariyas are arriving at Ganga ghats from different parts of the state to begin their kanwar yatra from Sunday itself.

The Prayagraj traffic police authorities issued an advisory to divert heavy vehicles, especially freight carriers, and commercial buses to different routes. Officials said that the route diversion plan will be applied from every Sunday to Tuesday during the ongoing Shrawan month until Aug 19. As the majority of kanwariyas are expected to move to Kashi Vishwanath temple on Sunday after fetching holy water from Ganga, the entire kanwar yatra route was taken under the scanner.

As per the diversion plan, vehicles coming from Kanpur and heading towards Varanasi have been diverted via Fatehpur, Lalganj, Rai Bareilly, Pratapgarh, Machhali Sahar, Jaunpur, and Mariahu. Similarly, heavy and commercial vehicles plying between Lucknow and Varanasi are being routed via Rai Bareilly, Unchahar, and Jaunpur. Moreover, heavy and commercial vehicles coming from Pratapgarh and heading towards Varanasi have also been diverted through Raniganj, Mungrab.
