A popular tourist attraction near a renowned beach in Portugal has implemented new regulations for visitors. The Benagil Caves, one of Portugal's most Instagrammable locations, have introduced a stringent set of rules that tourists must adhere to or face substantial fines. As of today, the picturesque Benagil Caves in the Algarve are no longer accessible for swimming and sunbathing.

These strict new measures aim to preserve the area's natural beauty and prevent overcrowding. The caves, famed for their breathtaking skylight that opens up to the sky, have long been a favourite spot for holidaymakers. However, even contemplating paddling over without a guide or anchoring in the sandy cove could land you in trouble, both literally and financially.

In an effort to maintain the area's safety and sustainability, the new rules, officially implemented on July 30, prohibit private and commercial vessels from disembarking inside the caves. Swimming and using floatation devices to reach the caves are now completely banned. Don't miss the biggest and breaking stories by signing up to the BirminghamLive newsletter here .

If you're considering kayaking, it's advisable to book a tour as hiring a kayak without a guide is no longer permitted. The new guidelines also restrict the number of boats and kayaks allowed inside the caves at any given time. Kayak tours must now adhere to a strict ratio of one guide for every six visitors, ensuring a more regulated experience.
