Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria continues to grow. Organizers said 2024’s event sold out quickly and broke last year’s record of 2,400 riders by registering 2,500 riders. Tour De Victoria event manager Heleena Gutierrez says the organization is thrilled with the record-breaking number thanks to riders and the over 230 volunteers that help make the day possible.

“We sold out again this year it was a record year. We have riders from two to 92 that come together for the day to participate in a great community ride [and] there are seven different distances, from 15 km’s up to 160 km’s,” said Gutierrez. For rider Liliane Cirne, participating in the race for the first time was a last-minute decision after her husband’s friend cancelled.

“It was easier than I expected. I did the 60 km race. We were expecting rain but it was a beautiful day and the ride is lovely,” said Cirne.

She also had some advice for people who are on the fence about whether or not they should give it a try, saying, “push yourself, you can do it.” CHEK Newsletter Sign up for the CHEK Now daily email newsletter to get breaking news and the day's top stories sent to your email.
