MUMBAI: BMC is developing plans to streamline the commute from Bandra West station to Western Express Highway (WEH) through a new road cutting across a BEST plot, an SRA area under redevelopment , and civic land . At a meeting held at the civic body's headquarters on Monday, Bandra West MLA Ashish Shelar discussed with municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani the need to build a development plan (DP) road connecting the station and the highway. "Currently, commuters must navigate three traffic signals before reaching WEH.

The new route aims to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. These plans were discussed at length during a meeting at the municipal commissioner's office on Monday," Shelar told TOI. A BMC official said while there had been discussions on developing this road earlier, a formal meeting on it was held on Monday for the first time.

To develop the DP road, BMC will need 1,347sqm of BEST's depot land and 1,897sqm of BMC's garage plot in Bandra, where vehicles carrying solid waste are taken for repairs. It will also require a portion of an SRA plot, whose redevelopment gained steam after BMC demolished slums in Maharashtra Nagar and Shastri Nagar . "Once these plots are acquired, BMC will be able to begin laying the road," said an official.
