The Prince and Princess of Wales are readying themselves for a breakaway from royal duties, as they head on holiday after a challenging year. Both King Charles and Princess Kate have been diagnosed with cancer this year so far, so William and Kate will be looking forward to some time away from the spotlight. And they are not short of options to choose from for their family getaway.

One place which is known to be particularly close to their hearts is the Isles of Scilly, where they are known to have taken their children, Prince George , Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis . The beautiful archipelago holds around 140 islands in total - and yet only five of these islands off the Cornish coast are inhabited. The Prince of Wales reportedly spent time at Tamarisk House in St Mary’s when he was just a child with his parents.

The most populous of all the islands, St Mary’s spans just over six square miles and houses in the region of 1,800 residents. The stunning mid-1960s property sits on a quarter acre of land, boasting four bedrooms and is largely concealed by tamarisk trees for the royals' privacy. Another place the royals have been spotted at is Tresco Island, the second-biggest island of the Isles of Scilly, the Express reported .

Back in 2020, a holidaymaker who spotted the Waleses told the Sun: "We hardly noticed at first as they seemed a normal family on holiday intent on keeping themselves to themselves. The place where they were staying was quite modest and certainly no.
