If St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School junior Danica Pagtakhan wasn’t so good at volleyball, she might consider a job with match.

com. She sets a lot of people up. Pagtakhan is putting team on the path to greatness, leading the Bruins to three wins this week and surpassing 1,000 assists for the season in the process.

The three wins put the Bruins in the NorCals semifinals on Tuesday night, just two wins away from a state championship. In the meantime, she is the Times-Herald Athlete of the Week. Against Liberty Ranch on Saturday Pagtakhan had a whooping 38 assists.

Good for some, yes, but that was her low mark for the week. Against Ripon Christian on Thursday, Pagtakhan put up 49 assists. In case you’re wondering if that’s a career-high for Pagtakhan, it’s not even close.

She had a 57-assist match against Albany during her sophomore year. Pagtakhan’s stellar play has come while dealing with a lot of pain. Pagtakhan said she’s been dealing with an ankle and back injuries for awhile, but has found a way to plow through it.

“I have to say, I’m playing through it for my senior captain Cierra Ray,” the Bruin junior said. “She’s been going through a lot of injuries too, so that inspires me to lay everything out on the court myself.” St.

Pat’s head coach Danette Domecus has noticed Pagtakhan stepping up when many others would sit out. “She’s been playing with a tweaked ankle but has still overcome everything,” the coach said. “She still came out and .
