An African dance performance in Northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has become a major attraction, drawing attention from domestic and international tourists while boosting the local tourism industry. Since its debut on May 9, the “Africa Style – Dancing Desert Project” in Zhongwei City’s Jinshahai Resort Area has welcomed over 30,000 visitors from around the world.
Local authorities project that the event will bring in between 50,000 and 80,000 visitors annually, contributing to the region’s economic growth. The opening show featured Zambia’s national dance team, with performers from 12 cultural groups across 10 regions of southern-central Africa. Their lively performances, set to the beat of African drums, have captivated audiences and enhanced the tourism experience in Zhongwei.
The project has also strengthened the bond between China and Zambia, celebrating their 60 years of diplomatic relations, with 2024 designated as the “China-Zambia Cultural and Tourism Year” to promote tourism in both countries. In light of its success, plans are underway to build an African tribal-themed park in Zhongwei, offering an immersive cultural experience for visitors.
