I ’ve got putting on my make-up down to eight minutes, six if I’m quick, including skin (which takes the longest). You may not find that especially speedy, but I am quite pleased with myself. I’ve also whittled down the number of products I use to a minimum, which means that if I’m away overnight I can carry everything I need in a narrow little pleather pencil case — no need for a giant make-up bag.

I find this very freeing. Experimenting and trying new things is fun, but knowing what works for you and just doing that is even better. The trick is to be aware of and open to new things, otherwise you end up doing what you’ve been doing for the past couple of decades, using clumpy products, which can look tired and old-fashioned.
