Breast cancer has touched the lives of many, whether through a family member or a friend. This October, as Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins, the Charleston community is uniting through various events and initiatives to support those affected by the disease. One entirely volunteer-driven organization, Share Our Suzy Lowcountry (SOS) , is holding multiple events in the Charleston area for those looking to participate this month.

As board member Mason Ward emphasizes, "No donation or fundraising effort is too small." SOS was created to honor Suzy McGrane, a local photographer who was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early 20’s. The organization focuses on helping breast cancer patients pay for groceries, childcare expenses, utility bills, wigs, prosthetic bras, and other necessary medical equipment.

"A $25 gas card can make all the difference in getting someone to their chemotherapy appointment," Ward pointed out. SOS offers plenty of creative ways for individuals and businesses to get involved, such as donating a percentage of sales on a designated day, contributing proceeds from a specific item, collecting gas cards through book clubs or other community groups, setting up info boards about SOS for donations, running employee fundraisers, or hosting events like dinners or parties. This October, a portion of proceeds from Jane Pope Jewelry will benefit SOS.

Vapor Apparel will donate a percentage of sales from its pink shirts (wholesale and custom orders only), and Bon B.
