October has arrived, bringing Tāmaki Makaurau out of winter hibernation and filling the local event calendar with oodles of events, the best of which we’ve collated here. There’s plenty to keep the kids entertained for the second week of the holidays including an abundance of children’s theatre, plus there’s a groovy weekend market, a call to clear out your old electronics, a living legend performing live, Auckland City’s annual Art Week and lots more. 1) Freida Market - Grey Lynn It’s hard to imagine a better vibe to start your weekend with than those you’ll find at Freida’s monthly market.

The first Saturday of the month, Grey Lynn’s cosy wine bar rouses earlier than usual to host a quirky market packed with preloved clothes, vintage finds, vinyl, ceramics, crafts, jewellery, plants and flowers, baked goods and other treats. There are always good tunes being spun on the decks and a festive, friendly atmosphere to put you in a good mood for the remainder of your weekend. When: October 5, 10am-1pm.
