The devastated family of a young mum who died from cancer aged just 31 have paid tribute to the 'strongest person' they knew. Nicola Hailes, from Longlands, near Middlesbrough, had discovered a lump in her breast and was diagnosed with cancer, undergoing months of gruelling treatment. After receiving the all clear just months later, the mum-of-one began to experience headaches, which were tragically revealed to be cancerous tumours in her brain.

Five months later, Nicola passed away, leaving behind her childhood sweetheart and partner of 15 years, Andrew Logan, 35, and their seven year old daughter, Isabella. Now, a year on from her passing, Nicola's family are holding a family fun day on Sunday, August 18, at The Dorman's Club in Oxford Road to raise awareness of cancer in young people, reports Teesside Live . The event will also raise money for Ward 14 at James Cook University Hospital, where Nicola was cared for.

Nicola's sister-in-law, Aimee Logan, said the young mum, who worked as a stylist at Guido's Hair Salon in Middlesbrough, always had a smile on her face, adding: "Nicola was amazing, bubbly, confident and so full of life. She was the strongest person I have ever known. I have never known anyone to be able to put on such a brave face as she did.

" Aimee has revealed that a fundraising day in honour of Nicola, sponsored by Woodfellas Flooring Ltd, is set to raise funds for the hospital. She expressed: "The staff on the ward were absolutely amazing. The care and suppor.
