I know you’ve come here to read about football but bear with me for a second. The year was 2008 and there was a new circuit introduced to Formula 1 World Championship. It was in a location known for its sun with no clouds to be seen, the track looked quick as well as glamorous and finally Monaco-esque with cars flying past luxurious super yachts at 300+ kilometres per hour.
I mean what could possibly go wrong? Well as it turns out, a lot. More Football Cast your mind to severe financial mismanagement, a comedic amount of personality clashes and following that just flat-out abandonment. While this has nothing to do with the football club, rather interestingly it shares simply a place and unusually a similar story of despair.
The place is known as Valencia, with that club being Valencia CF. An institution that gave the spotlight to the likes of David Villa, David Silva and now Western Sydney’s Juan Mata, has now transitioned to one of those clubs that in a sentence could be summarised by ‘Oh yeah, I remember when they used to be good’. I mean just look to the 2000s, where they won two league titles in an era where essentially a coin flip could decide the title between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
How many leagues can make you feel like this? A-Leagues. The Ninja A-League Women season kicks off November 1. Along with domestic silverware, their European performances were something to be very proud of.
