Saturday, August 24, 2024 Denver Populus Hotel opens this September, leading the way in sustainable hospitality with eco-friendly initiatives and a carbon-positive mission. Denver’s newest downtown addition, The Populus, is set to open its doors on September 18. Promising to be the first carbon-positive hotel in the country, The Populus will kick off its mission-driven initiative with the “One Night, One Tree” program in collaboration with the National Forest Foundation.

Inspired by Colorado’s iconic aspen trees, the hotel at 240 14th Street will feature eco-friendly elements such as regenerative agriculture, 100% renewable electricity, and zero-waste dining, with all food waste composted and returned to local farmers. Designed by the renowned architectural firm Studio Gang, The Populus mimics the look of aspen trees, with window shapes reflecting the distinctive dark scars found on the trees’ bark. Developed by Denver-based Urban Villages, known for their work on Larimer Square and the Sugar Block, the hotel will be managed by Aparium Hotel Group.

The 265-room hotel will offer two dining options led by Executive Chef Ian Wortham, previously of Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder and Tavernetta on the 16th Street Mall. The ground-floor restaurant, Pasque, named after a purple Colorado wildflower, will draw design inspiration from the forest floor, featuring organic shapes, textures, and soft lighting. Pasque will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
