The Stylistics were major players in the R&B explosion in the United States during the 1970s. Russell Thompkins Jr was the voice behind their biggest hits, and though he left that legendary group 24 years ago, he continues to sing their classic hits as lead singer of Russell Thompkins Jr and The New Stylistics. They are headliners for the August 17 Love & Togetherness show which takes place at Hope Gardens in St Andrew.

Songs like Betcha by Golly Wow , Break up To Make Up , and People Make The World Go Round are some of the songs that first endeared The Stylistics to Jamaicans over 50 years ago. Thompkins and The Stylistics visited the country several times during the 1970s. "Jamaica is a beautiful place, beautiful people.

I used to hang out with Byron Lee and people like (singer) Barry Biggs, who I know very well," the 72 year-old Philadelphia-born artiste said recently..
