Abingdon is ‘the most beautiful place on earth’ but also a commuter town with a population of around 33,000 which sits just south of leafy Oxford. It’s a place where the average home’s sold for £391,746 over the last year according to Rightmove, a staggering £294,585 less than the London average of £686,331. It was also home to GMB’s Kate Garraway.

But there’s so much more to it than this, such as the abundance of outdoor space. MyLondon spoke with Councillor Penelope Clover who described the town as eclectic, having a bit of everything. She said: “It’s big enough to have quite a lot of good facilities but is small enough to feel that it’s a community and I’m very proud that we’ve got a tremendous number of community groups, clubs, societies, and charities, all doing brilliant work.

We’ve got lovely, open space, the brilliant riverside, we’ve got parks by the river.

We’ve got the River Ock which goes into the Thames, and a tremendous amount of green space around our housing. And of course, we’re much cheaper than Oxford.” We also spoke with Councillor Neil Fawcett who echoed the sentimen.
