According to a study by YourOverseasHome, Italy ranks as the top destination for cost-effective living for British expats. The study evaluated the costs of life across seven countries - including the UK. Despite certain Italian cities being acknowledged for their steep expenses, the country overall emerged as the most affordable option for long-term residency.

Commenting on the findings, YourOverseasHome stated: "Despite there being a few cities and towns that have reputations for being expensive destinations , Italy is by far the cheapest place to live long term when you're not spending like a traveller." They further noted: "This is despite the fact that energy costs more in Italy." Whilst acknowledging regional differences in living costs, YourOverasHome pointed out that particularly for residents of typical towns or villages outside high tourism zones, Italy appears a financially sensible choice, reports the Express .
