The Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE hopes to become a rival to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. (Image: Ras Al Khaimah Government Media Office (RAKGMO)) An up and coming destination just 45 minutes from its better-known neighbour, Dubai , is hoping to become a rival tourist destination following significant growth in numbers and a boom in real estate. While countries like Spain and Italy grapple with mass protests against over-tourism, rising house prices and residents being forced to live in caravans , the city of Ras Al Khaimah is said to be “welcoming tourists with open arms”.

Speaking with Express.co.uk, Raki Phillips, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) explained why the Emirate has become the ideal destination for tourists looking for a luxury getaway, wellness experience or adventure holiday.
