A viral TikTok trend is sharing advice for holidaymakers that experts warn could be very dangerous. Airline seats can be cramped and uncomfortable at the best of times, but they can feel even more so on long-haul flights. To try and alleviate the discomfort, travellers have been sharing a rather unusual way of securing their seatbelts.

Passengers have been posting videos with their feet up on the seats with the belts fastened around their ankles, claiming that this position is more comfortable. The hack is causing consternation amongst aviation professionals, however, who say flyers would be wise to ignore this trend while travelling. They said: "With millions of views on TikTok, passengers on long-haul flights might be tempted to try this for ultimate comfort, however, experts strongly advise not to do this. "It’s extremely dangerous and can cause deep vein thrombosis, which is a blood clot issue associated with flying. It's a very unsafe position to fly in if turbulence occurs, and flight attendants are likely to ask passengers to fasten their seat belts correctly.
